MONITORING AND DOCUMENTATION OF LESSONS LEARNT: PREVENTION AND MANAGEMENT OF EMERGING FORMS OF VIOLENCE IN LEARNING INSTITUTIONS IN KENYA

The Ministry of Education (MoE) in collaboration with Association for Development of Education in Africa (ADEA) established the Inter-Country Quality Node (ICQN) on Peace Education under ADEA in 2009 with the aim of bringing together African countries and strategic partners to promote dialogue and collective learning and to create space for collaborative action on peace education. Through the ICQN on peace education, the ministry implemented an intervention aimed at countering violent extremism in learning institutions. The programme targeted five African countries namely; Liberia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Cote d’ Ivoire and Kenya. In Kenya, the programme was implemented in 7 counties namely Bungoma, Garissa, Isiolo, Kisumu, Kwale, Muranga and Nairobi. 

Scope of Work

  1. Develop a framework and procedures for the monitoring and documentation of project activities.
  2. Development of data collection tools and their revisions as well as data collection procedures in conjunction with the program team (e.g. logical framework, project performance tracking, indicators, data flow chart, M&E manuals)
  3. Guide and coordinate the review of programme log frames including: review the achievement of process, intermediate and outcome indicators.
  4. Review and provide feedback to programmes on the project progress
  5. Documentation, review and compilation of project processes, project findings, success stories, case studies, and lessons learnt in collaboration with implementing teams.
  6. Conduct project data analysis and provide feedback to project team for decision making
  7. Assist in the preparation of project reports
  8. Participate and offer technical support during project planning meetings and review meetings.
Results

  1. Designed and conducted a baseline survey that guided development of M&E framework
  2. Developed and instituted project M&E system, guided by a clear framework
  3. Developed a project documented plan that guided documentation of lessons learnt, success stories and best practices
  4. Developed a comprehensive project report highlighting the achievements, challenges, best practices and lessons learnt.
